Deluges, devastation, and diversions
How water shapes Araluen’s rich history
Join the Araluen History Group to explore Araluen’s rich history though our Water stories in History Week 2025. The landscape of the Araluen Valley was formed by water, our rich history with the gold mining era and agriculture shaped by water, while our resilience has often been tested by deluges and devastating floods.
Join us on Saturday 6th September from 10:00 am at the historic Araluen Federal Hall. Walk through the displays and photographic exhibitions, view the short film on the ‘Araluen Creek Restoration Project’ which focused on repairing damage to Araluen Creek and its tributaries caused by drought, bushfires, and floods, catch up with local historians, or share your water stories.
You could try your hand at gold panning with local experts and discover the logic behind the ‘golden fleece’.
If you are unable join us in person, information will be shared on the araluenvalley-history.com.au website at Araluen Water Stories.
While you are in the Araluen Valley take the History Trail and uncover more of Araluen’s rich history, or sit and relax in the garden with a cuppa, some Araluen produce and freshly made scones with jam and cream.
