In 1872 the New South Wales Police Gazette noted4New South Wales Police Gazette and Weekly Record of Crime (Sydney : 1860-1930), Wednesday 22 May 1872 (No.21), p 144. ‘Stolen, sometime during the night of the 13th instant, from T. Peace’s Hotel, Crown Flat, Araluen, the property of Mrs. Peace,—A clasp purse, containing two £1 notes, one supposed to be a City Bank note. Purse identifiable.’
