When you are thinking about how to present your work, think about being the reader. We suggest you use small chunks of information with good headings so readers can easily navigate around the article if they want to.
All submitted material will be reviewed by a small team of people from the project to ensure it is easy to read and complements the look, feel and flow of existing website material. Individuals submitting articles, photos etc. are responsible for ensuring the material is factually correct – the project team will not make any corrections, but we may come back to you suggesting amendments (e.g. more headings, split the piece, take out redundant and/or duplicated information).
Where appropriate, we ask you to use the Royal Australian History Society’s conventions about listing source materials and references.
We’d love to have pictures and photos, and ask that where known, you include information about them, such as:
- who is the picture of?
- when was it taken?
- who took it?
- where did you get it from? (e.g. family/personal collection, State archives etc.) and when? (e.g. sourced from xx collection, State Library of NSW, 30 March 2023)
We also want to record people’s memories and knowledge, and we will have a section on the website for oral histories.
If you want to record your family stories, and would like to put them on the website, you will need to have the consent of each individual speaker(s). We also have a list of suggested questions that you may want to use to help you get started.
Let us know at email: araluenvalleyhistory+enquiry@gmail.com if you are interested in making a recording. Depending on your location, we may be able to assist with ensuring the recording equipment is suitable, and of archive quality.
